Happy new year and a very warm welcome back (and welcome to new children and parents) from the Pre-Prep team.
We have an action-packed half term ahead that will include our Grandparents’ Tea (always a very popular event!) and lots of stimulating activities planned around our topic ‘’Water.’
Important information – If your child attends on Tuesday for PE, please make sure that he/she arrives dressed in PE kit with school clothes in a named Forest PE bag. Many thanks.
Personal and Social Development
Practise putting on and fastening coats and putting on hats, gloves and scarves independently. Circle time – kindness, consideration and sharing. Focusing on the feelings of others, using the Box of Feelings. The importance of families, including grandparents.
Communication, Language and Literacy
Early reading activities and building up awareness of story structure. Rhyming activities and continuing rhyming strings. Fine motor/writing activities including letter formation and for Kindergarten – writing captions. Letter sound of the week and wide range of phonic activities. The sounds for each week of this half term will be: e, b, p, k, f
Mathematical Development
Number – counting, recognition, sequencing. Pattern – recognise and repeat, using colours, shapes, sounds and our bodies. Kindergarten will print patterns for display. Sorting and matching using natural and tactile materials.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Extend computer skills using a wide range of programs; practise sorting and sequencing. French – extend vocabulary through fun games and songs. Early science – carry out water experiments, find out about freezing, melting and the properties of materials. Learn about Chinese New Year (Year of the Dragon) and Valentine’s Day.
Physical Development
Fine motor control activities – manipulating writing and other tools, scissors, materials, threading. PE – develop foot and hand control, awareness of space. Outdoor – climbing, balancing, jumping, pedaling, manipulating large and small equipment, play circle games.
Creative Development
Learn range of new songs and use percussion instruments. Use various materials and techniques to make displays of – a Winter wonderland, an underwater scene, weather symbols and Incy Wincy Spider. Make presents for our grandparents. Dance to music; and role play in our new outdoor Pre-Prep Library.
