Happy New Year !

Dinosaurs !

Welcome back and Happy New Year from Reception!

For our topic this half term we will be exploring the prehistoric world of…dinosaurs. We will be learning all the dinosaur names (and how to pronounce them!) and enjoying writing for a range of purposes. The children are very welcome to bring in any dinosaur fiction or non-fiction books to share with the class.

Below is an outline of the themes we will cover over the first half of the spring term.

16/1/12	Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs - Ian Whybrow	Estimating numbers, ordinal numbers.	Making a 'lost' poster. Writing dinosaur names. Alliteration.	Bring your favourite book please
23/1/12	Ten dinosaurs on a trip poem.	Finding more/less from a number. Vocabulary of addition and subtraction.	Speech Bubbles. Imaginary dinosaurs. Match name labels to dinosaurs.	Chinese New Year
30/1/12	Dinosaurs and all that rubbish - Michael Foreman.	Describing 2d and 3d shapes using mathematical language.	Sequencing narratives. Writing notices. Designing tickets.
6/2/12	Dance of the Dinosaurs - Colin and Jacqui Hawkins	Addition and subtraction. The total of 2 sets of objects.	Rhyme and alliteration. Describing dinosaur land.
