SPRING TERM
Happy New Year everyone from Mrs Burns and Mrs Wells. We hope you have had a wonderful Christmas break and the children are all ready to start 2012 and their second term in Year 1.
This half term will be as busy as ever with an initial focus on holiday news, New Year resolutions and initial preparation for our class assembly, which you are invited to enjoy on the morning of February 9th. Further details about costumes, lines to be learnt etc. will follow.
This term each pupil will receive a personal target book, which will be kept in their book bag for you to read. This will be a useful tool when helping with homework and will be updated as required.
To follow is an overview of the topics and themes we will be covering this half term.
Literacy - Stories from around the world and stories with patterned language. Poetry - pattern and rhyme. Grammar, phonics and handwriting. High frequency words – reading and spelling.
Numeracy - Numbers to 100 in words and figures. Count in 10s. Ordinal numbers. Addition. Positional language. Directional language. Weight and measure. Time.
Science – Sorting and using materials.
Art and D&T – materials, weaving and collage.
History – My school and Victorian times.
Geography – The environment and people who help us.
R.E – Beliefs and Practice.
PSHE – Going for Goals.
