Life in Our Reception Class is Truly Special
Reading is at the heart of everything we do, alongside writing and Maths. With our impressive 1:12 ratio, every child is heard to read three times a week, on a one-to-one basis, alongside daily phonics and group reading sessions. This frequency of reading isn’t always possible in State schools, due to the larger class sizes; such consistent support helps children make excellent progress.
Creativity and wellbeing are also central to life in Reception. Children have lessons in Art, Music, French and Sport, all taught by specialist teachers who are experts in their field. Our weekly Art lessons take place in our dedicated Art room and are a real highlight. These sessions not only inspire creativity but also have a wonderfully calming effect, supporting children’s emotional wellbeing, as recognised by the ISI Inspectors.
Reception children also enjoy weekly outdoor learning sessions, which are linked to the EYFS curriculum and take place in our purpose built outdoor learning classroom, also home to our two pygmy goats!
So many visitors say coming into our prep school is like coming into a ‘secret garden’, with our beautiful school grounds and our purpose-built play equipment for the children to enjoy. Our several school pets (Maggie the dog, George and Mildred the tortoises and Rosie and Ruby, the goats!) add to the warm, homely atmosphere and support children’s wellbeing.
We hope we can welcome you to our thriving and very special school very soon. Get in touch (enquiries@forestschool.co.uk) with us to book your personalised tour.
