Diwali Celebrations

As a school we came together to celebrate and learn all about Diwali, the Festival of Lights!

The hall had been beautifully decorated by our Hindu Forest community and was the venue for our special assembly led by Forest parents and pupils who wanted to share this happy occasion with the whole school. VS in Year 4 and SS in Reception opened the assembly with a beautiful dance to a traditional song! NU in Year 4, along with his mum, then told the story of Rama and Sita, reminding us how Diwali celebrates good overcoming evil and light shining through the darkness. After that poems were read, thank you to AP, DA and NU for sharing the meaning of Diwali through poetry.

At lunchtime, everyone enjoyed a Diwali-themed meal prepared by Chef Simon. We were also treated to some delicious Indian appetisers kindly donated by Forest parents Mr and Mrs Patel from their Indian Pantry shop!

Celebrating special days like Diwali helps us learn more about each other’s cultures and traditions. It’s one of the things that makes Forest such a welcoming and diverse community.
