What Community Means to Us

At Forest Preparatory School, community is more than just a word. It is at the heart of everything we do — shaping how we teach, who we partner with, and how we connect with families and our neighbourhood. We believe in building a strong school family, fostering active citizenship, and making a positive impact beyond our gates.

Key Community Initiatives

Here are some of our flagship programmes and ongoing efforts:

Initiative Impact / How to Get Involved
Parents’ Association (PA) Events & Socials Our Parents’ Association organises events for pupils, families, and staff — from discos and movie nights to the much-loved May Ball. These strengthen bonds among families and raise funds for extra resources. Join events, volunteer, or attend. All proceeds go toward enhancing our school life (e.g. equipment, theatre, outings).
Charity Partnerships We partner with local charities to support those in need and encourage pupils to take part in charitable giving. For example, we work with Little Green Sock to help families with clothing and run our Uniform Recycling (Nearly New Uniform) programme. Donate items, help at uniform sales, and take part in charity days like the Colour Run.  We also hold donation days where our children bring in food to support our local foodbank, the Bideford Centre. These are at two key points in the year, Harvest time and Easter Eggs.
Welcoming New Families We host a Welcome Back Coffee Morning on the first day of term so new and returning families can meet, connect, and feel part of the school from day one. Class reps and WhatsApp groups help families stay in touch. Parents can become Class Reps or simply attend and build relationships.
Local & Wider Community Links We enrich the school curriculum through collaborations with local organisations — music festivals, partnerships with sports clubs, NHS, police, links with Altrincham FC, etc. Pupils benefit via visits and guest speakers; families can help via contacts or supporting events.
House System & Leadership Pupils are assigned to houses (sibling groups) and take part in house meetings. In addition, roles (e.g., Music Captain, Football Captain) give them ownership and leadership experience across years. Pupils can aspire to those roles. Parents are invited to attend house events such as Sports Day, Swimming Gala etc

Extracurricular & Out-of-School Activities

A broad range of clubs (spanning science, sports, arts, languages, yoga, etc.), residential trips, community concerts, choir visits, etc. These foster wider participation and allow pupils to connect with the wider community. Browse and sign up for clubs

Our Vision & Ongoing Goals

We are always looking to grow what we do. Some of our current focus areas include:

  • Embedding responsibility and active citizenship in all our pupils so they leave us ready to make a difference.
  • Increasing competitive sports opportunities for younger pupils (Years 1-4) while still ensuring every child gets to participate and thrive.
  • Enhancing outdoor learning in our Early Years (EYFS), making nature part of children’s learning and well-being.
