The Year 5 classroom has enjoyed an exceptionally busy and productive fortnight, with pupils demonstrating outstanding commitment and consistently high standards across all areas of learning as they continue preparing for the 11+ examinations.
In Mathematics, pupils have been developing their understanding of reflections and have recently been introduced to Algebra. Alongside new learning, the class also participated in dedicated revision lessons designed to consolidate knowledge from across the term.
English lessons have focused on creative writing, with pupils planning short stories aimed at younger readers. As part of the task, children are being encouraged to adapt their writing style by using rhetorical questions, shorter sentences, simplified language and engaging illustrations to make their stories accessible and enjoyable for younger audiences. The stories will eventually be shared with their reading friends, providing an exciting and meaningful purpose for their writing.
To support pupils in their continued preparation for the 11+, additional late classes are taking place every Thursday after school. This commitment will continue into the summer holidays, with weekly Wednesday sessions helping pupils complete their final stages of preparation.
The dedication, resilience and enthusiasm shown by Year 5 pupils continue to be a source of great pride, and their excellent progress places them in a strong position for the months ahead.
