Our Nursery isn’t childcare, it’s a hub of happy little learners, learning through play and fun activities, all of which have a learning opportunity.
The day began with counting to 20 through a lively singing and dancing song. Not only did this help the children practise their numbers, but the music and movement also energised them and prepared them for a busy morning of learning.
The children then got hands-on with a range of continuous provision activities, each carefully chosen to support their learning. Threading wool and keys onto key rings helped develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and concentration. Building with LEGO encouraged creativity, problem-solving and spatial awareness, while completing jigsaws supported logical thinking, perseverance and problem-solving skills.
Next came mark making, where Miss Saez observed and assessed each child’s pencil grip, control and early writing skills. The children also enjoyed monster-themed colouring, providing an opportunity to develop their fine motor skills and creativity, while exploring and expressing emotions and feelings.
One of the highlights of the morning was a walking tour of the school, helping the children understand that they are part of a much wider school community. Along the way, they met some of the wonderful people who make our school special, including Chef Simon, who prepares our school lunches, and Mr Edwards, who looks after our school grounds. Finally they stopped to say hello to the goats in our Outdoor Learning Classroom!
We were also delighted to spend time with our wonderful Year 6 buddies, who are fantastic role models for our youngest children and demonstrate what it means to be a true Forester. These special relationships help our Nursery children feel part of the school community from the very beginning.
Back in Nursery, there was still plenty of time for bikes, slides, construction and imaginative play in our bespoke Nursery playground, before we finished our busy morning with lunch in the school hall.
