Our Character Education programme is now known as ‘Flourish.’ As part of Flourish we hosted a British Food Fortnight which was an opportunity for the children to explore where our food comes from and discover how we can care for our environment through sustainable farming, responsible food sourcing and healthy eating.
Throughout the fortnight, the children enjoyed a range of exciting, hands on experiences. Year 6 visited the Lambing Shed, Reception and Year 3 explored Grove Lane Allotments, Year 1 and Year 5 visited Grobards Farm, and Year 4 and Year 2 welcomed Chorlton Cheesemonger to learn more about British produce. Nursery and Kindergarten also got creative with the Little Red Pizza Company, making their very own delicious pizzas!
Back at school, Chef Simon introduced the children to a selection of traditional British dishes, including Eton Mess, toad in the hole and mushy peas. These tasty treats encouraged everyone to be adventurous, try something new and celebrate the wonderful food produced here in Britain.
The celebrations continued at home, with families encouraged to spend time together cooking and sharing something delicious. We were delighted by the fantastic response, and the dishes created looked absolutely delicious!
British Food Fortnight brought learning to life, helping our children develop a greater appreciation of food, farming and sustainability, while celebrating the joy of trying new flavours and cooking together.
