In the first Buddy Meet of the New Year, the focus was perfectly placed on setting New Year’s Resolutions. Year 3 pupils proudly took on their leadership role, guiding their Reception buddies to think about and choose a personal goal for the year ahead. These goals ranged from learning to ride a bike to swimming confidently without arm bands.
The session supported Reception children in setting an appropriate and achievable goal, helping them work towards developing a new skill and boosting their confidence. Year 3 pupils played an important role in this process by asking thoughtful questions, to find out their buddy’s interests. As a result, both year groups developed their communication skills through meaningful conversation.
An important outcome of the Buddy System is the friendships formed across year groups. These sessions provide Reception children with reassurance and encouragement from an older role model, while Year 3 pupils benefit from a sense of responsibility and pride as they support younger children.
New to this school year, the Year 3 Buddy System recognises the importance of Year 3 as they take their first step into Upper School. Being involved in the Buddy System gives them the opportunity to develop leadership skills, confidence, and empathy as they begin their upper school journey, all while building friendships that will last throughout their days at Forest.
