World Book Day gives us the opportunity to celebrate authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) reading. In fact, it's the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
All year groups at Forest have had a busy and rewarding time participating in an exciting programme of activities to celebrate World Book Week.
The children, who had all clearly made a great deal of effort, looked tremendous in their costumes! Teachers were introduced to new book characters, as well as nostalgically reliving some old classics.
Here at Forest, part of our World Book Day tradition is a story swap, where teachers swap classes and read material of their choice to their chosen class.
This is a great opportunity for children to build rapport with teachers in the school who are not their own and for teachers to revisit old classes or get to know the younger pupils who will be moving up.
Children across the school were captivated by the variety of reading materials chosen by the teachers; from poems to chapters from narratives.
