Developing Public Speaking Skills: Speech Competitions

This autumn term saw the return of our much-loved annual Speech Competition. The event sees children from Pre-Prep to Year 6 present and deliver a pre-prepared speech of a topic of their choice to the rest of their class. After delivering to their class, two winners from each class are chosen to compete in a “semi-final” against two other winners from the year group above them, where one winner is then chosen to compete in the Inter-School Speech Final, against children of the same age range from some of our other northern schools. The speech competition proves to be a very popular event, as children research, present and deliver speeches about topics which they are passionate about. For some, it provides a platform to express and deliver and for others it’s an opportunity to try and overcome nerves and build confidence. Whatever the goal, by doing it #theforestway, every child undoubtedly achieves a special something.

Every year,  we are always amazed by the varied topics and this year was no different: from Monster Trucks to Orienteering in Lower School to The Suffragettes and Human Evolution in Upper School, we are incredibly proud of all our pupils.

Congratulations to every child who took part and a huge well done to all the class winners. This year, our Forest finalists (PG, Kindergarten; CR-J, Year 1; EW, Year 5 and CE, Year 3) competed against the winners from Edenhurst, Brabyns and Forest Park Prep. All children were exceptional and after a tough deliberation process, CE in Year 3 was announced the winner of the Year 3 /4 category, with his speech about Climate Change. Well done to CE and all of our Foresters for taking part, you made us very proud!
