As the academic year draws to a close, Kindergarten pupils have shown they’re more than ready for the exciting step into Reception. From curious learners to confident thinkers, the children have blossomed across all areas — especially in Maths and English.
Over the past year, children have developed a strong foundation in early numeracy. Many can now confidently count beyond 20, concepts like ‘more’ and ‘fewer’ are now part of their everyday thinking and some of them are even beginning to add two single-digit numbers. They have also gained a good knowledge of shape, and can identify 2D shapes.
Their English skills have also flourished. The children are now speaking in full sentences, listening carefully to stories, and asking thoughtful questions. Many are beginning to recognise letters and the sounds they make, and some are starting to blend sounds to read simple words — fantastic early reading progress. Their confidence in mark-making and early writing is also shining through, with many children able to write their names and some beginning to form simple words.
All the children have developed strong self-awareness and emotional intelligence and can confidently identify their feelings. Most importantly, they consistently show kindness, demonstrating genuine care for their peers, living creatures, and the environment around them.
