Reading is a key focus and children are encouraged to read every day, in order to give themselves the best chance of success in the comprehension paper. It demands a greater emphasis on your child’s ability to define vocabulary, ability to interpret, and make inferences.
Maths
Year 6 builds on previous knowledge, focusing on number, place value, and operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Topics also include fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio, measurement, algebra, shapes, and statistics, preparing the children for advanced calculations.
PSHE
PSHE in Year 6 prepares students for life’s challenges and opportunities. Topics include identity, relationships, career aspirations, online safety, and the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, ensuring they make informed decisions as they grow.
Science
The children explore topics such as Animals, including Humans, Evolution and Inheritance, Light, Electricity, and Classification of Living Things.
History
Year 6 History deepens students’ understanding of British, world, and local history, examining Britain’s impact on the wider world and vice versa, fostering historical awareness and critical thinking.
Geography
By the end of the year, children will confidently locate countries and cities, understand geographic features, and use maps, globes, and compasses. They’ll also explore the significance of global positions like the Equator and time zones.
