Celebrating Creative Writing

At Forest we celebrate different writing skills in a variety of ways. During Mrs McClearn's Creative Writing Club, the children are encouraged to discuss what makes a good story before completing a writing task.  The children begin to pen their masterpieces, writing just a few sentences to begin with, without worrying about spellings just putting a few wavy lines under words they are unsure of. The children thoroughly enjoy Creative Writing Club.

When the teachers teach creative writing, they usually follow the units suggested by the literacy framework, including the following:

  • stories with familiar settings
  • stories from other cultures
  • fairy tales (also known as traditional tales)
  • fantasy stories
  • myths and legends
  • adventure and mystery
  • stories with historical settings

We share the children's work during Celebration Assembly. Mr Hyde is always delighted to see the high standards of creative writing thoughout the school. Mr Francis has created a display titled ' Writers of the Week' which is in the school hall.
