Year 3 and 4’s Collaborative Learning Approach

Collaborative learning is a teaching method where children learn in small groups or teams allowing them to consolidate their knowledge on the concept being discussed.

This half term, Year 3 and 4 will be using this approach in their mental maths, every Tuesday morning from 8:30-9:15am. The children will be put into groups, using teacher and assessment data gathered so far, and given the opportunity to work on developing areas of mental maths specific to their individual needs. Every two weeks, Mrs Eley and Mr Francis will alternate the groups which they are teaching, to enhance and consolidate the topics being taught. Groups will be reviewed on a half termly basis to ensure the needs of every child are being met.

There are many advantages of using a collaborative learning approach:

*Peer learning- more relatable

*Improves critical thinking

*Enhances problem solving

*Improves communication skills

*Improves cultural awareness

We look forward to following the progress of all the children using this personalised, tailored approach.
