SCARF: Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week

Our new Relationships and PSHE scheme, SCARF, has become a treasured part of our Forest routine; both in the classrooms and in assembly time. It gives children the opportunity to learn, discuss and reflect on some important topics associated with the world in which they are growing up (so quickly!) into sharing the SCARF values of SAFETY, CARING, ACHIEVEMENT, RESILIENCE and FRIENDSHIP along the way.

This week, to mark Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, we asked all our children to wear their own scarf to school on Friday 11th February. Whether it was a favourite scarf, a sentimental scarf, a scarf to show a team they support, whatever the story, all scarves-with-a-story were welcome! We had a vast array of scarves to showcase and talk about in our classrooms and it was heartwarming to see all the children so engaged and animated in their approach to the day.

In summer term last year, we uploaded a great deal of information about our new scheme, which is in line with the government changes to how and what children are taught as part of their PSHE lessons. Follow the link here to read all about it.

As we move towards the summer term, notably the teaching of the ‘Growing and Changing’ unit, parents will, once again, be offered the opportunity to discuss any of the content with either Mr Booth or Mrs Budd (Relationships and PSHE Lead). Please look out for our parent consultation notification in the coming months.
