Year 6 are Ready for the Next Chapter

As our Year 6 pupils complete their final weeks at Forest Prep, they do so with confidence, independence and a deep sense of pride in all they have achieved. Their final term is packed with meaningful experiences designed to prepare them for the exciting challenges of secondary school — and to help them leave as happy, resilient and well-rounded individuals.

A key focus of the term is transition. Through a series of carefully planned events, the children visit their future schools, take part in induction days and begin to understand what lies ahead. Back at Forest, they take on leadership roles, acting as role models to younger pupils and supporting the school community. These responsibilities help them develop maturity, empathy and a strong sense of identity.

The Summer Show is always a highlight. Every child is expected to play their part, whether singing, acting or working behind the scenes. It’s a chance for them to shine, perform with confidence and celebrate their final ‘swan song’ together on stage.

Their residential trip, which they go on in the final term, offers challenge and adventure, encouraging teamwork and personal growth. From outdoor activities to problem-solving tasks, the children learn to take risks, support each other and show true resilience — all while making memories that will last a lifetime.

On the Cheshire Show Geography Field Trip, pupils deepen their understanding of food production and farming, and broadens their awareness of the world around them.

Finally, the Leavers Assembly is a moment of reflection and celebration. Each child shares their memories and milestones — marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.

This year, our Year 6 pupils move on to a wide range of excellent secondary schools, including Altrincham Grammar School, Wellington, The Grange, Cheadle Hulme School, Alderley Edge School for Girls, North Cestrian and more.

Mrs Knowles, Year 6 teacher, shares a heartfelt farewell message with her class.

Year 6, what a truly special group you are — and what a joy it has been to teach you, especially in this remarkable centenary year of Forest.

With so much happening in the wider world — mobile phones, social media, the rush of growing up — you have, above all else, remained what children should be: happy, curious, full of life, and determined to succeed.

We are so very proud to call you true Foresters. You have shown resilience when things have been challenging, worked hard when it mattered most, and always added a wonderful sprinkle of creativity and fun along the way.

You leave us with all the skills you need for the next part of your journey — resilience, independence, curiosity, and above all, a belief in yourselves. Wherever life takes you next, I know you will continue to shine.

Never forget — once a Forester, always a Forester.
