There was great excitement, as Year 5 and Year 6 children, embarked on their much anticipated 5 night residential trip to Willersley Castle, in the Peak District.
The weather was on our side, not a raindrop in sight! It certainly was an adventure week, the children never stopped, apart from to sleep and eat. Everyone joined in a huge range of activities including Abseiling and High Ropes, Archery, Canoeing, Rifle Shooting, Assault Course Orienteering, Outdoor Games including Volleyball, Swimming, Zip Wire and an Underground Maze.
In the evenings, our Foresters enjoyed a hearty meal overlooking the beautiful castle grounds. Before dusk on Wednesday, they all gathered around a campfire to toast marshmallows and sing their hearts out. On the last evening a party rounded off a really special week – the children danced like no-one was watching.
Mr Booth, Mr Hyde, Mrs Knowles and Mrs Johal were incredibly proud of the children, they looked on proudly as the children developed in confidence as the week progressed. Our Foresters learnt more and more about themselves and enjoyed every minute!
Willersley Castle is a brand new centre which specialises in outdoor pursuits. It was built in 1792, the estate offers exceptional facilities within a 65 acre estate on the edge of the Peak District. The grounds consist of woodlands, fields and gardens inhabited by an abundance of wildlife; as well as the the River Derwent which flows along 2km of the estate.
