Adventure Club in the Great Outdoors

‘Adventure Club’ is the new extra-curricular club for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. The club is led by Mrs Singer (Kindergarten Teaching Assistant) who is passionate about outdoor learning. She strongly believes that children learn so much from being outside, often without even realising they’re learning at all.

Mrs Singer set up ‘Adventure Club’ because of her lifelong love for the great outdoors, she has many happy memories of camping as a child to leading Cub Scouts when her daughter was younger. She strongly believes that children learn so much from being outside, often without even realising they’re learning at all.

Adventure Club makes full use of the ‘Outdoor Learning Classroom’ encouraging children to explore, create, and play in a natural environment. While a covered area is available for wetter days, sessions aim to be outdoors as much as possible, embracing fresh air and the changing seasons.

Children take part in a wide range of activities including:

  • Outdoor and woodland art
  • Games and imaginative play
  • Learning to use woodworking tools (coming soon!)
  • Exploring nature and caring for our school animals
  • Building confidence, teamwork and independence.

Mrs Singer also adapts her activities to the interests of the children. The first group have shown enthusiasm for pirate adventures, woodworking projects, and caring for animals.

In the very first week, children fed the goats and chickens, learned how to mark a woodland path (inspired by Hansel and Gretel and Scouting skills), created treasure maps, and followed clues to find real treasure, which were chocolate coins, much to the children’s delight!

Looking ahead, Mrs Singer is introducing woodworking tools and teaching simple knots so children can build dens with greater success and enjoyment.

There are still a few places available for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
