Chess Club (Y2-Y6)

Summer Term 2024

Chess Club is run by former British Ladies Champion Sarah Longson (nee Hegarty).  All children will learn the basics of the game and we will then move on to more advanced strategies. The classes will include both taught material and lots of games so the children can practise. Sarah  coaches several members of the England junior squad and is keen to develop some champions from Forest!

Session Dates:  11th April - 11th July 2024 (inclusive)

Cost per Session: £11.00

Please note there will be no session for Year 5 and 6 on Thursday 2nd May and no session for ALL on Thursday 27th June due to the Summer Show

Diddi Dance (Nursery and Kindergarten)

Summer Term 2024

Diddi Dance is a high energy, engaging class for preschool aged children. We explore a difference theme of dance each term, introducing a love of movement to children that will hopefully last a lifetime. We follow the EYFS, so this class is educational whilst having lots of fun too.

Session Dates:  8th April  - 8th July inclusive

Cost per Session: £8.00

Cricket (Coached by Nathan Brown) (Y3-Y6)

Summer Term 2024

After School Cricket - Open to all abilities with sessions focusing on technical improvements in the first half and then having fun in the second half of sessions playing modified games.

Football Club (Y1-Y4)

Summer Term 2024

There are two groups for Football Club, which is for boys and girls. Group 1 is for Years 1 and 2 and Group 2 is for Years 3 and 4. Players joining the club will develop their football skills and technique, with focus on the fun and enjoyment of playing small-sided football. We welcome players of all abilities.

The course is run by experienced F.A. qualified coaches in a friendly, supervised environment. Each session includes a warm up, skills/technique work and small-sided games and competitions. The course takes place outside, so players need their Forest mid-layer top and base leggings/tracksuits and PE sweatshirts. Players also require training shoes (no boots) and a drink and/or snack

Session Dates: 8th April - 8th July 2024 inclusive.

Cost per Session: £6.20

Please note there will be no Upper School Football on Monday 24th June.

Just B Yoga Club (Kindergarten-Y2)

Summer Term 2024

Mrs Thomson's Yoga Club is for children from Kindergarten to Year 2. The practice of yoga is an ancient science but is even more relevant in this day and age. Children receive a wealth of benefits from being introduced to yoga; developing, strength, flexibility, coordination and awareness in a relaxed, non-competitive environment. Yoga also helps children to become more mindful, happy and able to deal more effectively with the stresses of the busy society we live in today. Having been a primary school teacher for 24 years, Mrs Thomson has developed a passion for supporting children’s physical and emotional well-being. She is a great believer in the benefits of yoga and is a qualified as a children’s yoga teacher.

Just B Arty Club (Reception-Y2)

Summer Term 2024

Be creative..be expressive...be designers...be happy....be you! Just Be Arty extra curricular club will allow children to have a fun packed after school art session using a huge range of activities, materials and projects. Children can let their imaginations run wild as they explore painting on canvases, clay, crafts and even jewellery making.

Kicks Dance (Reception - Year 2)

Summer Term 2024

Kicks Dance South Manchester is owned by Cara and our club at Forest Preparatory School is run by Wendy. Kicks Dance is all about having fun, getting fit and enjoying a range of dance styles in a safe, friendly environment. At Kicks, dance is about experiencing the joy of music and movement - we don't focus on technique but instead encourage children to simply have a go and express themselves! We believe that dance should be inclusive and accessible for all children - our classes aim to show that dance is not only fantastic for promoting physical well-being, it’s also a great way to boost children’s self-confidence and support their mental health. So please come along and have a boogie with us! 

Session Dates: 18th April - 11th July (inclusive).

Kiddy Cook Club (Reception-Y2)

Summer Term 2024

Kiddy Cook has been offering an after school cooking club to the students of Forest School for almost 14 years. Each week we help the children to create easy-to-make recipes. Please be advised that classes will be limited to 12 children per session.

Once signed up, children will receive a useful card wallet so that they can keep their recipes in one place, a skills checklist and stickers to record their learning and a handy cooking conversion chart, which has lots of different weights and measurements.

The cost of the club includes the cost of the ingredients, packaging and weekly wipe down recipe card.

LAMDA Lessons (Y1-Y6)

Summer Term 2024

The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is one of the oldest drama schools in the United Kingdom. Since the 1880s LAMDA has offered speech examinations to the public. These examinations have been refined and developed and now not only can the children take exams in Poetry and Prose but also acting and Musical Theatre. In addition to being the UK’s largest statutory speech and drama awarding body, LAMDA examinations have a reputation for excellence across the globe.

The examinations help children of all ages and aspirations to: 

Unlock the imagination and creative-thinking
Develop communication skills
Build self-confidence and self-esteem
Receive critical appraisal and guidance for future development

Dawn Flint, who conducts the lessons, has a degree in Theatre and works freelance in Cheshire as a Musical Theatre and LAMDA Teacher.  These lessons offer your child the opportunity to learn and develop another valuable life skill. The sessions take place with small groups of up to six children.

Musical Drama Club (Y1-Y6)

Summer Term 2024

Dawn Flint (see LAMDA) will be teaching Musical Drama Club. Children who attend this club play games, learn dance routines and perform songs. They develop performance skills, improved speech and diction, gain more confidence and enhance their social and interaction skills.  Most importantly, they will have fun!  Places are strictly limited.

Session Dates: 10th April -  3rd July 2024 inclusive.

Please note there will be no musical drama for Year 5 and 6 on Wednesday 1st May.

Foresters Science Club (Year 1 - 2)

Summer Term 2024

Our Science Club has been set up and is being run by Mrs Paula Stokes. Her aim is to inspire her young members to foster a love od science and to enjoy questioning the world around them, proposing ideas and working towards finding the answers.

Mrs Stokes has worked in hospital and pharmaceutical research, and in university teaching laboratories. She has also taught science in a local, independent primary school.

There promises to be lots of fun, with every week being led as a 'hands on' practical or experimental session.

Topics will be:

1. Personal Discovery - Testing my senses

2. Going on a Bug Hunt and Setting up a Wormery

3. Sorting Materials

4. An Experiment in Protecting an Egg

5. Light and Dark - Shadows

6. Investigating Sound - Making Music

10. Making Ice Cream

Speedy Ninja's (Y1-Y6)

Summer Term 2024

Speedy Ninja’s is all about building resilience, stamina, strength, focus and a sense of team spirit. It consists of various drills, obstacles and exercises encouraging children to stay active but enjoy at the same time. 

During the course of the term, children complete various levels and acquire skills, both as an individual and as a part of a team and receive rewards after crossing every level (there are 3 levels to attain). 

The club is open for children in the Lower School (Y1 - Y2) and Upper School (Y3 - Y6). 

They are required to come in their PE kit and shoes, and bring a healthy nut free snack and water bottle for a good pre-session nourishment. 

Session Dates: 11th April - 4th July inclusive.

Cost per Session: £6.00

Spanish Club (Kindergarten-Y2)

Spanish Club is taught by Mrs Burns. Mrs Burns has extensive experience teaching English as a foreign language having worked for International House both in the Czech Republic and in Northern Spain, where she lived for two years. 

Spanish Club offers interactive, fun and practical lessons, combining exciting games, story-telling, catchy songs and engaging cultural activities to make learning Spanish fun, easy and very useful.

A team of qualified LTA tennis coaches from Brooklands Tennis Club, led by coach, Kev Bhunjun and Head Coach, Gary Brown, will coach children keen to learn or improve their tennis skills.

Lessons are fun and varied, incorporating games and drills that are designed to encourage children to develop their tennis skills.

Session Dates:  12th April - 28th June 2024 inclusive.

Cost per Session: £6:00

Please note there will be no session for Year 5 and 6 on 3rd May and no Upper School Tennis on Friday 21st June.

Journalism Club (Y3 - 6)

Summer Term 2024

Read All About It!

In Journalism Club, you can take on the different roles of a newspaper team. There will be lots of roles on offer, such as photographer, interviewer, reporter, and copywriter. You will work collaboratively to think about what to publish and the roles will be assigned accordingly. You can write about issues you feel strongly about, and as a team, you will be reporting on key events in school.
