When the children first stepped through the doors of the Nursery in September, they were beginning their journey into the world of school. They were unsure of routines and unfamiliar with the faces around them and were trying to master basic independence. Now in their final term of Nursery and those children have really transformed, both academically and socially.
One of the most noticeable changes since the beginning of the year is the children’s growing independence. Tasks that once needed help — like using the toilet, opening water bottles, or managing their own snacks — are now done with little assistance. This progress isn’t just practical, it’s a reflection of them developing self-confidence and the supportive environment they are learning in at Forest Prep.
Academically, they’ve participated in lots of phonics and number work which is skillfully planned by our experienced teaching team. We build a love for discovery and a spark for curiosity and excitement which sets a tone for future learning.
Socially, many of the children have formed strong friendships, learning how to share, cooperate, and play together in meaningful ways. Watching them communicate, problem-solve, and support each other is a daily reminder of the importance of early social education.
A focus now is on preparing the children for the next step - Kindergarten. One part of this transition is self-registration: each morning, the children proudly find their photo and place it on the board. What once felt unfamiliar has become a confident start to their day.
As July approaches, the Nursery team are proud of the independence their little learners now show, proud of their growing confidence, and proud of the friendships that have blossomed. The children have come a long way in just a few months, and with continued encouragement and playful learning, they’ll leave nursery ready for their next big adventure.
