It is so fantastic to be back in the full swing of Music at Forest! At Christmas, we had a brilliant Lower School Nativity at our new venue, The Fuse, and returned to St Peter’s in Hale for the Upper School Carol Service. Even after we broke up for the Christmas holiday, we joined Peter Scotson on Radio Alty for a special Forest takeover of his morning radio show. Every pupil in the school featured in the broadcast and we were immensely proud of their enthusiasm and standard of performance.
This term, our Year 3-6 classes attended the Bridgewater Hall for a concert by the Hallé Orchestra on the theme ‘From Our City’ and Main Choir took part in a choral workshop with Shirley Court, the conductor of the Hallé Children’s Choir. Next term heralds the long-awaited return of our annual summer show. ‘Cinderella and Rockerfella’ will feature our Year 6 class in the starring roles and Years 3, 4, 5 in the supporting chorus. We have started rehearsals for the show and can already tell it’s going to be a knock-out!
As always, we’re very proud of our choirs and excited that our newest group, Seedlings, has been instigated by our Music Captain, IF. Children from Reception and Year 1 love coming at break to have a sing and a laugh. In May, our Chamber Choir, Greenhouse Choir, and many piano/singing pupils will perform at the Alderley Edge Festival, an important event in the annual calendar.
Looking forward to next year, we are incredibly grateful to the Parents’ Association for financing our new Garden Room and will be focusing on extending our peripatetic music provision. We will be welcoming a very experienced string teacher to Forest and will be looking also to increase pupil numbers learning brass, drums and guitar.
All in all, a consistently busy and rewarding year in Music - thank you to all staff and parents for supporting the children in their musical endeavours!
